We are thrilled to share the success of our 16th annual Orangutan Veterinary Advisory Group (OVAG) Workshop, which took place this year in Jogjakarta, Indonesia! It was a memorable event that brought together passionate conservationists, veterinarians, and professionals dedicated to the care and protection of orangutans.

This year, the workshop was a hybrid event. We were fortunate to have around 60 participants join us in person, while our online attendance averaged about 50 participants per day. This format allowed us to reach a broader audience, enabling more individuals to benefit from the shared knowledge and expertise of our community.

What made this year particularly special was that the entire workshop was organized, run, and led by our dedicated committee members—many of whom are based in the region.

This year’s workshop was highlighted by the many insightful case studies presented by OVAG participants, which led to engaging panel discussions. Participants had the opportunity to delve into complex issues, share their experiences, and collaborate on innovative solutions for orangutan care. In addition, we had a few clinical sessions throughout the workshop that provided hands-on learning and the opportunity for participants to sharpen their skills.

Overall, the 2024 OVAG Workshop was a resounding success, thanks to the collective effort of everyone involved. It is the passion and dedication of our participants, both in person and online, that drives this annual gathering. We look forward to continuing this journey together and hope to see even more of you next year as we continue to learn, share, and grow in our mission to protect and care for orangutans.

Thank you to everyone who participated, and congratulations once again to our incredible organizing team!

Here’s to another year of collaboration, growth, and conservation!
