OC/OVAG Veterinary Workshop Begins In One Week

The sixth annual OC/OVAG Veterinary Workshop is nearly here and it will be our most ambitious gathering yet.

Each year, the Orangutan Conservancy funds, stages and hosts the entire multi-day event, giving dozens of top Indonesian wildlife veterinarians the important opportunity to join together with their fellow orangutan caretakers.  This much-needed gathering is only made possible because of the generous support of our donors.

The vets are just about ready to travel in from their posts across Indonesia, where for little money and often without recognition they care for and heal sick and wounded orangutans in rehabilitation centers and in the wild.  These are the frontline heroes that are saving our forest friends, and we are so grateful to be able to bring them together to share their knowledge and results with their colleagues.

“The Orangutan Conservancy/Orangutan Veterinary Advisory Group (OC/OVAG) workshop is gearing up for another fabulous session for 2014, our 6th year, ” says OC’s Dr. Raffaella Commitante, who heads up the event.  This year we will be focusing on developing a certified post graduate course on orangutan and SE Asian wildlife led by our vets we have been working with since 2009, with the top vet universities in Indonesia; developing skills in scientific writing so that our vets can begin to publish their work; and continue with on-going advanced training for dealing with disease issues.”

During the event, we’ll have daily photos, updates and a comprehensive report from the workshop, and this year we look forward to bringing you video highlights as well.

Thank you to all of our supporters who help us make the OC/OVAG Workshop a yearly event.  If you too would like to help support the workshop please click here.
