Welcome to OC Flash ….a new format to send you updates about what we are doing and what is happening in the Orangutan World
∗This coming summer, the Orangutan Veterinary Advisory Group (OVAG) will hold its 10thAnniversary workshop!!!! The workshop will be held in Banda Ache, Sumatra, Indonesia and will be our largest workshop ever featuring participants from not only orangutan organizations and researchers but also from gibbon, elephant, rhino, tiger and other primate groups. We want to be able to share our successful formula in bringing people together to make conservation happen!
Also, be sure to check our website and social media accounts as our president, Dr. Raffaella Commitante will be off soon on her travels to Indonesia to join the OVAG workshop (which she started) as she will be sending in short reports from the field!
∗The long-awaited Orangutan Haven, built as an island sanctuary for unreleaseable orangutans by the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Program (SOCP) will soon be ready to receive orangutans. Rafaella will be going to visit the SOCP sanctuary after the 2018 OVAG Workshop. The photo below is of the bridge being constructed!
*Meetings are currently being held (which OVAG is being included in) to reassess the Indonesian government’s mandate to release all orangutans currently in centers – which was to release all by 2017 – a truly unreasonable time frame. We hope to be able to affect a better government understanding of orangutan release issues.
*Borneo nature Foundation has been able to purchase tricycles to help with fire fighting with the help and support of friends like you!!!!
