The Orangutan Conservancy has awarded funding to The Borneo Nature Foundation (BNF) for their proposal to enhance the infrastructure of the Sebangau Forest, a peat-swamp over 500,000 hectares in size, in Borneo. This project is aimed at rebuilding a critically aged boardwalk that allows forest access and travel to researchers, students, conservationists, and even wildlife!

The project, which is scheduled to be completed later this year will reinforce the research infrastructure of the Sabangau Forest in Borneo. Since 2009 BNF has built three boardwalks through the Sabangau Forest. These boardwalks serve as a critical component in completing research and daily operations due to the fact that Sabangau is a peat-swamp forest. These types of forests are extremely difficult to traverse without elements such as these boardwalks. Unfortunately one of the three boardwalks has succumb to the harsh environment it resides in, and it is in need of dire reconstruction. The funding provided by the Orangutan Conservancy will go towards replacing the boardwalk in the Southwest portion of BNF’s campus.
