Surprise Baby Born at Chester Zoo!

Human’s aren’t the only great apes that can keep secrets! A Bornean orangutan named Leia at the Chester Zoo surprised keepers and staff with a brand new baby earlier this year. Despite the new mom having taken multiple pregnancy tests that consistently came up negative, the newborn came into the world sometime back in June. Although a little while ago now, keepers believe that mother, Leia was keeping the infant hidden away.

With the birth of this new baby, it will be the second infant conceived as part of the Chester Zoo’s breeding program.

Chester Zoo is a renowned conservation and animal care organization, in fact every year they are a main sponsor of the Orangutan Conservancy’s Orangutan Veterinary Advisory Group Workshop. We are proud to be partners with them in the fight to save orangutans from extinction.
