Artist & Photographer Melis Bürsin Donates Book Proceeds to OC

The Orangutan Conservancy is thankful to have received $550 USD from the photographer, artist, and author Melis Bürsin. Bürsin generously donated half of the profits generated from her new children’s book, The Banana Tree, to the Orangutan Conservancy on March 22nd, 2021.

Having grown up in Indonesia, Melis Bürsin and her brother, actor Kerem Bürsin, fell in love with orangutans when they first saw them visiting Borneo. Bürsin told us that “[Orangutans] are really beautiful animals with incredible spirits”.

The Banana Tree is based on Bürsin’s childhood in Indonesia along with her and her brother’s wild imagination. It is authored by Melis Bürsin and illustrated by Nicole Debarber.

Siblings Momo and Carrot go on an adventure where they help the orangutans take back their home.
